Jean Paul Gaultier Aftershave & Men's Fragrance

As well as being one of the most famous, notorious and successful French designers of all times, Jean Paul Gaultier can boast several more strings to his bow. Rising to success at the tender age of 18 when he was spotted by the well known designer Pierre Cardin, Gaultier is a man who constantly likes to reinvent himself, keep himself fresh in the fashion world and always keep his fans and the press guessing. This has brough both criticism and support to his work however this has not deterred this incredibly iconic Frenchman from making his dreams a reality.

Jean Paul Gaultier is everywhere – with his recognisable, strong smelling scents, his own exhibition known as “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” which is still touring today and he has also designed costumes for well known men and women celebrities such as Kylie Minogue on her 2008 world tour and the late iconic singer Leslie Cheung, who hired Gaultier to design her 8 different costumes for the last tour that she performed before her death. In 2012, Gaultier was named as a member of the Jury for the main competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival – the first time that a fashion designer has been invited to be part of the jury and in 2012 he designed the dress that the French entry of the Eurovision Song Contest wore in Azerbaijan.

Gaultier currently designs for 3 collections: his own couture and ready-to-wear lines, for both men and women. Gaultier designed the wardrobe of many motion pictures, including The Fifth Element, Kika and Peter Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. There isn't an awful lot of backstory regarding this famous French fashion designer and fragrance entrepreneur – he keeps himself pretty much to himself – however what we do know about him is that this man is behind everything that he puts his name to and he has a deep belief and gut instinct about the success that he creates.

The first fragrance for the modern man was simply entitled 'Le Male' and was launched on the back of the success for its complementing women's scent 'Classique' that was launched in 1993. There are several versions of this fragrance – Gaultier likes to keep things fairly straight forward and simple and therefore only has 4 or 5 different collections of fragrances for both men and women – however there are over 70 different versions of these collections to date.

Some of the best known men's fragrances include Fleur du Mâle, which was launched in April 2007. Shortly thereafter, the "Eau de Cologne Fleur du Mâle" was released demonstrating a lighter version of the Fleur du Mâle and in 2011 the new men's fragrance, Kokorico was launched after a very successful year for Gaultier at the Haute Couture Fashion Show 2011 / 2012.
